Phil is a highly experienced Litigation Solicitor with over 20 years of experience in Civil Litigation. He recently joined Freeman Johnson after leading the Dispute Resolution Team as Partner of a reputable local firm.
He provides practical and comprehensive advice on all areas of Civil and Commercial Litigation and is praised by his clients for his calming influence while guiding them through the most complex of disputes.
Phil prides himself on offering a firm, practical approach to disputes, helping his colleagues in other teams when, in particular, the work of our Wills Trust and Probate team becomes contentious. Equally, he regularly advises clients upon challenges to wills, disputes over the administration of estates and claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act, such claims being particularly emotional in times of loss.
Being a go-to for many local businesses, Phil provides advice on Commercial Contracts, disputes with suppliers and purchasers and, where necessary, when relationships break down between business partners and directors. He is often called in to negotiate optimal outcomes for clients seeking to exit business relationships and provides detailed advice on all related matters.
Throughout his career he has gained a wide expertise including in the following areas:
Building and Construction Disputes – including issues over contracts, quality of works and pricing
Contract Law – breach and enforcement of contracts and resolving things when contracts go wrong or are not adhered to
Commercial Property Disputes – including issues between landlords and tenants, notices, dilapidations and damage and ending relationships
Debt Recovery and disputed Debts
Directors Personal Guarantees
Land and Property Disputes – such as issues of trespass, nuisance, boundary disputes and adverse possession
Property Ownership disputes – including fall outs between shared owners, trusts and trustees and broken-down relationships (outside of marriage)
Interests
In his spare time, Phil is heavily involved in the running of a Clay Shoot which has raised over £100,000 for local charities. In particular, raising money for SSAFA (who assist injured servicemen), as well as a number of local Hospices and cancer organisations. In addition to holding regular days that are open to the public, Phil regularly coaches newcomers to the sport and is a CPSA certified instructor. And when he’s not instructing, it’s a nice place to walk his dog.
Phil has also taken part in a number of charity treks, including climbing ‘the ash cloud volcano’ in Iceland, walking a section of the Sahara Desert and climbing through the rainforest in Borneo, all for different local Hospices.
When home, he regularly plays football with friends (though will quickly admit he’s not very good) and is learning Jiu Jitsu (though will quickly be shown by anyone good that he’s not very good).
