06 April 2022 - significant divorce change

As of today, 06 April 2022, the most significant change in divorce law for almost fifty years comes into force.

The divorce law has changed to a no fault approach which will enable parties to separate amicably without the need to apportion blame or wait a period of separation before seeking a divorce order.

The new law comes with a new procedure and timetable which our specialist divorce solicitors: Carole Middleton and Thomas Sweeney, would be happy to discuss with you at a no-obligation appointment.

The family team at Freeman Johnson welcome the change in the law coming into force today which we believe is well overdue and will enable couples to separate with limited hostility to enable amicable negotiations and, hopefully, agreements on the children’s future arrangements and the sharing of any generated wealth.
